Dear President,
I’m Li Ming, an undergraduate in the School of Chemistry of our university. First, please allow me to express my appreciation for your taking the time to read this letter concerning / as regaurds / in regaurd to / with reguard to / with respect to supporting/promoting student health and wellness.
The weakening of students’ physical constitution, according to my observation, might be largely/mostly attributed to their idleness and reluctance to work out / do sports. Thus at the top of the agenda is a feasible/practical/workable incentive mechanism, like the introduction/inclusion of the physical fitness test results into the scholarship or even graduation criteria (having scholarship or even graduation directly tied with students’ physical fitness test results). Moreover, the sports infrastructure and facilities need expanding and updating to meet my fellows’ demands. Lastly, it would be fairly beneficial/advantageous to disseminate the significance of exercising regularly.
Thank you again and I’m looking forward to your reply.
Respectfully Yours,
Li Ming

When diagnosed with ALS at the age, Hawking was given a life expectancy of just two years. Though he managed to live longer than anticipated, the incurable illness gradually paralyzed him over decades. However, with his "desires, drives, dreams and ambitions", he continued to explore the mystery of the immense universe on his small wheelchair. His innovative theory about radiation of black holes, and later several works of popular science, the most famous being A Brief History of Time, made him a worldwide celebrity both in cosmology community and the general public. His perseverance and optimism has and will continue to inspire millions of people, handicapped or healthy, to overcome obstacles fearlessly.

Holding a smartphone, staring at the screen, emotionless and speechless. Hardly could one relate such a scenario/scene to a gathering dinner, but that\'s just the content of the caricature / that\'s exactly what the cartoon caricatures, captioned "a get-together in the smartphone era". Seated at a round table, the four Millennials in the cartoon, rather than glutting themselves on the delicious dishes or chatting with each other, are entirely immersed in the irresistible splendors of the digital landscape.

The criticism herein is conspicuous. Today a smartphone is increasingly a requisite of normal life, but in the meantime we seem to find ourselves becoming the slaves of our screens as well. Originally we intended to use phones to acquire information more conveniently, only to be bombarded with a flood of messages and notifications; we expect to kill time, and finally have our work time invaded/usurped by endless entertainments and distractions; we want to keep in touch with our old friends through instant messaging apps, but end up ignoring each other when we manage to get together. If you couldn\'t put down your cellphone even for one quarter, why would you, then, arrange this reunion? You can just simply start a group video chat. Ridiculous as it seems, this phenomenon is getting more and more pronounced.

We need to use our phones more mindfully. After all, your phone is just a gadget invented to make your life easer, far less than what your whole life means to be. To begin with, if you please, just try to have a one-day "offline challenge" keeping your phone turned off and treating your life like you used to do. You\'ll find your mind cleared of all the impure thoughts implanted by the virtual world, come to realize what matters most in your life, and unleash unbridled vigor and creativity.

Dear fellow students,

As chairman of the Student Union, I would love to convey my heartfelt appreciation for all the kindness you showed in last week\'s donation activity.

Since the ruthless typhoon stroke Taiwan last week, our hearts have gone out to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy. As the old saying goes, great love is witnessed in time of disaster. Every donation, big or little, is a manifestation of our traditional virtue, and will exert a huge impact. All the money will go to one of the local charities to help rebuild the shattered society. Chinese people living on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are members of the same family, sharing ties of blood and common destiny. Our good deed will transmit a message that we are always here, always willing to offer help.

Words fail me in expressing my gratitude to all of you. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Li Ming

Lost

December 22, 2018

I lost my iPad on the second floor of the literature library at around 4:00 pm when I was leaving the building but forget to take it. It is this year\'s latest version, in pink and with a storage of 512 GB.

Did anyone happened to find it? I would appreciated if you could do me a favor and give it back to me. You can check whether it\'s mine using Touch ID or the passcode.

Please phone me on 1897654321 or contact me by WeChat (the same number). Thank you a lot.

Li Ming

In the picture is a steaming hot pot, with a variety of "cultural foodstaffs", both Eastern and Western, in it, such as Taoism, Shakespeare, Buddhism, Kungfu, Peking Opera, and so forth. The central idea of this portrayal captioned "cultural hot pot: delicious and nutritious" is conspicuous: cultural bending.

In a age of unprecedented globalization, increased international connection and collaboration has also conduce to exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations. For instance, it is no longer stunning nowadays to see in a Brazilian cinema an American-produced movie by a Chinese director telling an Indian folk tale. Such an irresistible trend of integration undoubtedly does more good than harm, not only offering people a wider range of cultural products to choose from and concurrently/consequently a distinctly different perspective to observe the world, but increasing understanding and friendship between different countries.

However, being open to foreign cultures doesn\'t meaning accepting them in their entirety nor discarding our own culture. Only by separating grain from chaff and celebrating the tradition culture can we benefit most from multicultural communication. Otherwise, we might get perplexed and lost or even forget where we are from in the waves of cultural blending.

In the picture is a foreign tourist seeking for cultural relics in an allegedly "historical capital", only to see monotonous modern buildings. Captioned "Should historical constructions be preserved?", the picture provoke one into thinking about the duality of modernization and tradition.

On first hearing, the idea that traditional culture is loosing its value in the galloping world is compelling, but nothing could be further from the truth. Devaluing the tradition means forgetting your past and losing your identity, especially in the waves of modernization and globalization nowadays. Traditional culture, a common heritage shared by a nation, is conducive to the solidarity among different groups of people, which is the basis for a harmonious society and economic growth. Moreover, traditional culture, just like modern culture, can also be commodified. That is to say, it can directly bring us direct economic benefit, as exemplified by the popularity among the young generation of the Palace Museum souvenirs.

In conclusion, efforts should be made to preserve our traditional culture. Otherwise, the situation depicted in the cartoon won\'t be rare in our real daily life.
